Possibly 1940s printing and probably missing a dust jacket, this still a rare example of one in a series of highly collectible books, produced by Bannerman, after her success with Little Black Sambo.
Book has slight faded patch to front. Internally clean.

Unpaginated illustrated in colour throughout. Undated circa 1940s. Occasional marks, but generally nice and clean inside. A story of three siblings who set sail on a ladder when the river threatens to wash their house away, they end up on a ship with a polar bear, but all is well in the end. Charming original illustrations by Bannerman. When first published Bannerman’s books, about Sambo, his family and friends, were praised by some as a rare positive portrayal of a black / asian hero in childrens’ fiction. However, the naming of the characters and some of the illustrations (usually the USA / Japanese editions) are considered offensive to some. The stories are based on her time in India and the stories reflect Indian / Tamil culture.
