First published in 1731, this novel by The Abbé Prévost D'Exiles (Antoine François Prévost) is the story of two young French lovers: the Chevalier des Grieux, and his lady, Manon Lescaut. Des Grieux struggles to support Manon in the lavish lifestyle she craves, and they end up in New Orleans. The novel is presented in a deluxe Heritage Press edition in the Helen Waddewll translation into English. With color illustrations by Pierre Brissard and with a prefatory note by the author. Sandglass leaflet not present. --- In brown/green/yellow faux marbled boards backed in brown pigskin, gilt titling to leather spine block; maroon topstain. Volume housed in maroon paper-covered slipcase. --- With prior owner's signature to front free endpaper, slight sunning to spine, illustrations are somewhat dulled and with a little age-toning to leaves, otherwise a clean, tightly-bound copy. Structurally sound slipcase with a few water spots and some rubbing.; Tall Octavo - 9 to 10 in. tall; xi, 155 pages .
