Clean dark blue cloth boards with circular paste-on illustration of ship passing through the canal on cover, blind stamped decorative border around illustration, gilt letteirng on cover and spine. Wear with small chip at upper spine corner. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean. Clean endpapers (small neatly penned previous owner name and date - 1914 - at top edge of front free endpaper). Fold-out map at front of book, several color plates, many black and white photographs of the entire region, the project, and the people behind it. 2" closed tear to one photograph (Colonel George Washington Goethals). 358 pages..
