Very Good. xix, [6], 613 pp., [15] leaves of plates : illustrations, portraits ; 23 cm. ; LC: PN451; Dewey: 809 ; OCLC: 9406336 ; black cloth with gold lettering and designs ; no dustjacket ; illustrations by sculptor Onorio Ruotolo, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, Italy, and who founded the Leonardo da Vinci Art School in Manhattan in 1923, whose most famous student was Isamu Noguchi. Ruotolo was also a cartoonist using the name "Bayard" and a noted book illustrator in the 1920s-30s ; owner stamps on bottom of textblock ; name on front flyleaf; full-page portraits by Ruotolo include Shakespeare, Moses, Homer, Plato, Virgil, Dante, Rabelais, Cervantes, Milton, Shelley, Balzac, Goethe, Tolstoy, Ibsen, Poe, Whitman; numerous other 1/4 sized portraits throughout ; VG
