About This Item

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.NFINE/FINE.No owner inscrptn and no price- clip to dw/dj - absence of publisher's price.[These are believed to be export edns which preceded the UK trade release and so,the true 1st edn.] Bright, crisp, clean, glossy laminated, scenic colour photographic illustrated front panel of dw/dj,with white+orange lettering, rear panel with plain black background with white lettering of 'The eighth POLDARK novel'; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present - virtually as new externally.Residue of cloth's blue dye due to a water/liquid(?) stain bled all along the top, internal edge of dw/dj and from foot of spine/backstrip along to the front inner flap - and no further - of the bottom, internal edge; boards seem unaffected though and not visible externally.3/4s of the top edges with a partial water/ liquid stain and slight dust-soiling resulting in some sporadic foxing/spotting to same,fore-edges unusually bright and clean without any staining,foxing/ spotting nor any ageing/tanning; contents (body text) bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - otherwise near pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,so therefore appears unread - apart from my own collation.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original plain navy blue cloth boards with bright, crisp, stamped gilt letters to spine/backstrip and immaculate white background with black ink printed Poldark, Chynoweth,Tom Carne and Luke Warleggan family tree charts, illustrated endpapers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,9-445pp [paginated] includes Books 1-3 comprising 9,9 and 9 chapters respectively; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, Books' separator pages and 4pp blanks at the rear.Described hard, but fairly and honestly, probably too much detail! Nowhere as bad as it may read or sounds! Still a really acceptable collector's example.Author's 8th POLDARK novel. Want more Winston GRAHAM titles? For similar and other available titles - please search my MODERN FIRSTS2 catalogue - or inquire direct. When the seventh POLDARK novel,'The Angry Tide',ended in December 1799 it seemed as though this aga which had delighted millions on TV screen and printed page must die with the century. But time is proof against mere calendar change and lives continue whether chronicled or not.So when in 1810 King George III became mentally ill and a Regency was proclaimed,Poldarks and Warleggans were affected by this national event and by the Regent's unexpected decisions regarding the prosecution of the war with France. It is at this turning-point that a new generation takes the centre of the stage in the persons of Jeremy and Clowance, children of Ross and Demelza.Their concerns of head and heart, and the presence in all their lives of an enigmatic stranger from the sea, unfold against a background which ranges from Wellington's lines in Spain to a Midsummer night in Cornwall, from a ball in London to a brush with the Preventive men.As the new generation moves forward into the industrial age,Winston Graham fills in the past, portrays the present, and hints at the future as only a master storyteller can. Since April 2013 and again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template, altering it's prices, weight allowances, dimensions and lowered it's qualifying compensation rates too! So,please contact rpaxtonden@blueyonder.co.uk ,because of the weight/value of this item for correct, insured shipping/ P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!
