About This Item

Toronto: Thomas Allen Limited. Very Good- with no dust jacket. 1945. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Brown paper covered boards with silver print shows some edge wear, corners bumped ; A tight solid book, hinges intact; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 316 pages; This is a continuation of her autobiography 'Clearing in the West', published in 1935. That book ends with two young people standing on the rear platfom of a train 101 miles southwest of Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1896. This book continues through some tumultuous times, marriage to Robert McClung, the birth of her children and the awakening of her social activism, most especially regarding temperance and women's suffrage. Her efforts in the latter cause cleared the way for women to be elected to office and she did her part, serving as a member of the Legislative Assembly in Alberta for five years. Two world wars after the the end of the first installment found her tired and wanting to tie up her life by finishing her autobiography. This was truly an exceptional woman. .

About Ainsworth Books

Ainsworth Books was for many years a bricks and mortar store in Vancouver, BC. When we acquired the store, we moved to a location in Delta. After three years we moved the stock home and started operation as an online, by appointment only operation. I have worked with books my whole adult life and enjoy giving recommendations.
