About This Item
Cambridge, MA: Harvard Univ Press, 1968. Association Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR at half-title page -" To Jim Armsey, with the deep appreciation of his friend. McGeorge Bundy, February 11. 1969". James Armsey, ( 1918-2008) who was the Ford Foundation executive who oversaw grants to universities and colleges in the 1960s, with the only requirement that they had to raise matching funds from other sources. At his urging the Foundation added the requirement that the colleges and universities could not bar black students. This change caused a number of them, including Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Emory University, Tulane University, and several major private colleges, to admit black students for the first time. At the time of publication McGeorge Bundy was the President of the Ford Foundation. He also served both Presidents Kennedy and Johnson from 1961-1966 as Special Assistant for National Security Affairs. Fine, Armsey's name and initials front paste down and end page, hidden by front flap. In a Near Fine dust jacket, small corner creases at flaps. . SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR. First Edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Association Copy.
