About This Item
1841. HOWITT, Mary. STRIVE AND THRIVE. A Tale. New Haven [CT]: S. Babcock, Chapel Street, 1841. An early American edition, published within a year of the first edition. Wood-engraved frontispiece and a vignette on the title-page. 179 pp. 12mo., bound in contemporary yellow paper boards. The title-page information is printed on the upper board and the frontispiece illustration is printed on the lower board, both within a border of type ornaments. Internally, despite moderate foxing to endpapers, it is very clean and bright. The binding is skewed. The boards are moderately soiled, with rounded corners, and the spine is heavily chipped. Nonetheless, it is very good overall considering the fragile nature of the binding.
