About This Item
1933. Hardcover. Stab binding. Paper pastedown. . Very Good. A French studio campaign book with some of the exciting graphics associated with the major Hollywood studios of the same era. Folio, 31.5 by 25 cm. Unpaginated, 25 leaves. Directors include Anatole Litwak, who was soon to forge a major career in Hollywood. Stars promoted include a young Charles Boyer, a few years before his Hollywood break-out role in "Algiers"; and Annbella, also before she moved to Hollywood and became the wife of Tyrone Power. Other names, less known to English-speaking audiences, include Harry Baur, Jean Kiepura (who later sang at the Metropolitan Opera), Brigitte Helm, Roland Toutain, Albert Prjean, Jane Marnac, etc. etc. Some of the stars are shown in full page head shots with light coloring. Some of the movie promotions are rendered in bright color. One page is devoted to the other subsidiary film offerings of the studio, including animated films and documentaries. Scarce -- only institutional holding found on OCLC First Search at UCLA. Condition: cover soiled, with a smattering of loss to the silver foil on the corners. Some bending to the text block and cover. Moderate wear within, but overall a solid and attractive copy.
