About This Item

This is an antique copy of "Style-O!-Graphic Pens and Funny Pencillings in Europe" by J.S. McClay. 1881 1st edition; Homer Lee Bank Note Co.; New York. The book is a humorous travelogue of sorts, documenting the author's travels in Europe to places such as Venice, Munich, Amsterdam, London, Glasgow, Paris, Milan, Pisa, Rome, Naples...and more. There are illustrations throughout "from sketches made on the spot." From the Preface: "The following chapters on European travel were written while abroad, with a Stylographic Pen, hence its peculiar title."

Condition:
There are stains on the covers. Small cloth tears at the top & bottom edges of the spine. Bright gilt on the covers. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The paper between the front pastedown and end paper has split 3" down from the top. Both covers are firmly attached. A stain appears at the upper-inner corner of the blank backside of the frontispiece and disappears a few pages later at the Preface page. The text pages are lightly age-toned and mostly clean with only a smudge at the outer edge of page 131, and a thin light stain at the upper-inner corner of pages 120 to Appendix page 15. Two names have been written in pen at the top of the title page. Overall the book is in Good condition.
