Little, Brown and Company, 1908. Hardcover. Very Good. Very Good. 1908 Little, Brown and Company. This copy has been professionally rebound in a decorative binding. Half bound (spine, part of the boards, and corners) in red leather, with gold ruled borders, over hand-marbled boards in red, cream, and gold. Spine has five raised bands with gold spine lettering. Title and author are in separate spine panels; remaining panels have gold tooled decorations. Top edges gilt. Deckle fore and bottom edges. Matching hand-marbled endpapers. First Edition. First printing. "Published November, 1908" appears on verso with additional printings listed. NOT ex-library. Tissued color frontispiece. Black and white plates. Binding tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Leather is in good condition, with light surface and edge wear and mild soiling from handling at the corners and edges. Corners lightly rubbed. Spine slightly darkened from light. Leather at outer hinges shows a little flaking. Gift inscription in pencil on half-title page, dated Christmas, 1908. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. First and last few pages lightly foxed. Very faint moisture stain visible on gutter corners of pages; more visible on plates. Seems to have affected book before rebinding, as covers not stained. Pages otherwise clean and unmarked. 411 pages. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
