Illustrated throughout with 82 black-and-white figures. Period bookplate to front pastedown. Minor rubbing to extremities, bumping to head and base of spine; overall a tight and attractive copy. very good This volume grew out of Lockyer's notes for his "Lectures to Working Men" at the Royal School of Mines. Lockyer co-discovered helium and is considered one of the founders of astrophysics and the father of archeoastronomy, the attempt to interpret ancient civilizations via their understanding of solar alignments and seasonal rhythms. 1897
