"The Pamphlet of which I beg to offer a translation to the English public, was written by me in the month of May in my native town, Elberfeld, Prussia. The publication was occasioned by the beneficial results produced by a herb medicine invented by me, and used against Asiatic Cholera as well as other contagious disorders appearing some times as an epidemic, at other times only in sporadic form, viz. typhus, small-pox, &c., and against chronic maladies. Although the distribution of the Arcanum to patients of this sort, as well as the circumstance that I cured Cholera patients in their own houses, instead of those rooms of the public hospital which had been allotted to me, caused law proceedings to be taken against me by medical men (as will be seen by a copy of the proceeding I thought it necessary to add to the pamphlet), still the results have been highly satisfactory with regard to complaints of long standing, as well as with rapid diseases."
