Illustrated with three dozen delightful engravings and woodcuts. Jacket illustration: "The Ark", a colored woodcut from 'Biblia Sacra Germanica', printed in Nuremberg in 1483 by Anton Koberger. Ham, son of Noah, is the narrator of this story, told with humor, reverence and irreverence, but there is a deeper meaning to be found. Bound in grey half cloth with copper titles on spine, green paper-wrapped boards, title and author blind-stamped on front; clean and unmarked, strip lightly sunned on spine head/heel; bottom edges have light wear. Tight and solid binding, square with sharp corners. Frontis: illustration of The Ark, grounded. Internals in Fine Condition. Bright and clean green illustrated jacket has two chips on spine head with a closed tear on the front edge of the spine head, light corner wear. 304 pages. 9.5 x 6.5 inches. Atheneum, New York, 1981.
