Text is clean and unmarked, binding tight, some tanning of pages due to age. Dust jacket is in pieces, gift inscription inside cover, black cloth cover shows little signs of wear. This is the story of John Sutter of Sutter's Miller. He made his was to what was then the desolation of the Sacramento Valley and turned it into a fabulously productive domain only to see his dreams destroyed by the finding of gold. Beautiful wood cuts both in B&W and color, 179 pages.
