Light wear and some soiling to cover, water staining to endpapers and upper margins of some pages, occasional foxing, some cracking to endpapers, binding holding tightly. A rare and highly entertaining book by an esteemed swimming instructor in the early 20t century. In addition to explaining the basics of swimming , he covers subjects including trick swimming, diving, "how to restore the apparently drowned,", where to swim and the history of swimming. The author shares his knowledge of swimming during his "twenty-five years' experience as a professional swimmer, instructor and life saver at the principal watering places on the New England, Atlantic and Long Island coasts." Illustrated with photos and instructive drawings.
