About This Item
New York : Grove Press, 2003. Book. Illus. by Sahara map and endpaper portraits of Laperrine and Foucauld. Fine. Hardcover. First U.S.. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A fine copy in the original cloth with a perfect dust jacket. No stains, as new inside, no prior owner marks. The adventures of two French imperialists, friends but very different. One turned to religion. The other was a career military officer who led a famed camel corps at the end of the 19th Century and the early years of the 20th. The Sahara was a dangerous, mostly unexplored wasteland in those years, and these Frenchmen set out to tame it in French interests. A rousing tale, beautifully told. .
