Contemp. half vellum with ms. library marks on spine. Münster and Osnabrück, Philipp Heinrich Perrenon, 1784. First edition of these systematic instructions for drawing, by the Osnabrück engraver, teacher and land surveyor C. L. Reinhold (1739-1791). According to the title the book is for the use of artists in the making, sculptors, architects, and poets, as well as for private tuition and for schools. It follows the art theory of Swiss born Johann Georg Sulzer, professor in Berlin. There is an extensive section on allegories and symbols from "Abend" to "Zwillinge". - Lacking 13 copper plates, rear inner hinge broken - Cf. Thieme/Becker XXVIII, 129f. (Reinhold).
