Recounts the activities of missionaries and the 1819 conversion of King Pomare II to the Reformed tradition brought to the islands by the London Missionary Society. Apparently based on William Ellis, Polynesian Researches (1831). Marbled boards. A fascinating account of the impact of Western missionaries on Tahitian society, and the destruction of traditional beliefs. ; 195 pages .
