About This Item

This wonderful chapter book won the Newbery Medal, in 2004, for its author Kate DiCamillo. DiCamillo's work is noted for its memorable, sympathetic characters, in this case a determined mouse as he endeavors to rescue a human princess from a band of rats. Full page black-and-white illustratons by Timothy Basil Ering grace the story; the publisher has taken the extra step of providing deckle-edged pages. This copy is pristine -- 1st printing, 1st edition with dust jacket unclipped (unpriced), signed by the author on the title page. Collectible.

Synopsis

The Tale of Despereaux, also known as The Tale of Desperaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread is a 2003 Newbery Medal winning children's fantasy book written by Kate DiCamillo. It tells the story of a mouse, named Despereaux, on a quest to rescue a beautiful human princess. The book was adapted into an animated film in 2008. The novel is divided into four books and a coda. Each book tells the story from the perspective of a different character.

Reviews

On Oct 7 2014, a reader said:
It was interesting to see how the strings all came together at the end. A tale about a mouse falling in love with a princess is quite a premise, but DiCamillo is so good, I think her book Edward Tulane is even better.
