About This Item
Winnipeg, Manitoba: The Winnipeg Free Press (c. 1970) Illustrated card covers..."The Buffalo Hunt" by Peter Kuch. Foreword by Richard S. Bowles - Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba. Introduction by Richard S. Malone, Publisher and Editor In Chief Winnipeg Free Press. Edith Paterson, a Winnipeg Free Press reporter in 1959, put together this unique collection of stories that look at the founding years of the province of Manitoba - the robust, rollocking years, when trials and tribulations were met and overcome with the indomitable spirit that built the West. Delving into early issues of the Free Press and other newspapers, some over 100 years old, she found the color of the times, the life and vigor as depicted in no other medium. The many stories that were compiled were of special interest to Manitobans during their centennial year, such as a number of "firsts", from the first outpost of Christianity to the first fire engine (that got burned up itself). Sketches in the book are by Julie Dale. Name to top of title page. Leaves of book age-toned. Book remains sound, tight and most serciveable.. Soft Cover. Very Good.
