About This Item
London: John Murray, 1824. Hardcover. Good. Pleasant half leather binding of the first edition of Irving's Tales of a Traveller, a collection of essays and short stories written by his Geoffrey Crayon persona - responsible for the Sketch Book and Bracebridge Hall. Less well received than his previous works, it nevertheless Contains Kidd the Pirate and the influential The Devil and Tom Walker. Blind-stamped design to spine. Marbled boards. Marbling to page edges. 8vo. Rubbing and wear to leather, with slight loss at top rear corners. Previous owner's name to front pastedown. Contents otherwise clean and tight. Good overall.
