About This Item

This is a handsome, decorative binding copy of "Tales of a Traveller" by Geoffrey Crayon (Washington Irving). 1854; G.P. Putnam & Company; New York. "Author's Revised Edition" - complete in one volume. The book features an illustrated title page, frontispiece, and full-page engravings (each with a tissue guard). Nicely bound with gilt illustrations on the front and back covers, and ornate gilt decorations on the spine. Gilt page edges on all sides of the text block.

Condition:
Light soiling to the back cover and spine; the front cover has a few stain spots. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a minor split at the front hinge between the frontispiece and title page resulting in the front cover being just a bit shaky. Bright gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Foxing to the illustrated plates (mostly light, though a few plates do have heavier foxing), to the tissue guards over them, and to some of the text pages before/after them. Light foxing to the end papers and pastedowns. Name written in pencil in old handwriting on front pastedown. Heavy tanning to the back of the illustrated title page, the title page, copyright page 2 contents pages, and 1st "To the Reader" page...the tanning gets lighter and disappears after the following 2 "To the Reader" pages. Overall the book is in Good condition.
