Chip at head of spine and top of front joint, a few stains to covers; some intermittent foxing, but a very good plus copy in original condition. First American edition, first printing, with only the stereotyper's imprint at the bottom of the copyright page, and with the earliest ads. Frontispiece, with tissue guard, and six plates. 8-page advertisements dated July 1853 inserted between front endpapers. 336 pages. 8vo (16.8 x 10.3 cm).
