With 16 wonderful full-page mounted colour plates, plus the small mounted frontispiece by Willy Pogány Illustrated with numerous lithographed orange and black illustrations with added decorations to the margins. Lithographed by Vincent Brooks, Day and Sons Ltd London. #319 of a limited edition of 525 copies. Signed by Willy Pogany on the limitation page. Bound in dark green calf leather with tooled and blindstamped titles present to the spine and the front board. Leather has some light scuffing to the extremities (spine ends). Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid. A very attractive and extremely rare Art Nouveau, Willy Pogany signed limited edition. Tannhäuser (full title Tannhäuser und der Sängerkrieg auf Wartburg, "Tannhäuser and the Minnesingers' Contest at Wartburg") is an 1845 opera in three acts, music and text by Richard Wagner, based on two German legends: Tannhäuser, the legendary medieval German Minnesänger and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest. The story centers on the struggle between sacred and profane love, and redemption through love, a theme running through much of Wagner's mature work. E-104; 4to 11" - 13" tall; Signed by Author .
