Bound in full crushed olive levant with inlay of tarpon on the line on front cover, full grey morocco gilt doublures, patterned paper flyleaves, t.e.g., by The French Binders. A few small nicks and mild uneven fading as usual. Very limited edition [no limitation specified]. 8 photogravure illustrations with lettered tissue guards. [5], 59 ff., printed in green and black. 8vo. Presentation copy, inscribed by Johnson to socialist politician and science fiction writer George Allan England.
Ken Callahan, in his bibliography, comments that this book "Gives a very good account of the excitement of tarpon fishing. Certainly the most attractive tarpon book, both in typography, design and particularly fine binding by The French Binders, formerly binders for the Grolier Club. ... A rare and handsome book." Eldridge Johnson was the president of the Victor Talking Machine Co. and a book collector, the owner of Lewis Carroll manuscripts and books.
