E. Nutt, London, 1733. Early Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. ISAAC BICKERSTAFF (Joseph Addison and Richard Steele). The Lucubrations, London: E. Nutt et al., 1733. 12mo, a reprinting of a periodical begun in 1709, pp. iv, 330, 10 (index); iv, 312, 16 (index), brown calf boards with brown morocco label and gilt ornaments to spines, bookplates on front paste-downs, apparently pasted over other bookplates. Contains Issues 51 through 189 of Bickerstaff's Lucubrations, better known as The Tatler, a creation largely of Joseph Addison and Richard Steele, with occasional contributions from Jonathan Swift. The publication was a literary and society journal that lasted about two years but had a much longer-lasting impact. This offer is for Volumes 2 and 3 of a 3-volume set. The bookplates are of the Earl of Northesk, a Trafalgar hero. Condition of these books: Covers rubbed at edges, worn all over, joints cracked. Insides generally clean, overall good. Size: 12mo. 2 volumes of the 3-volume set. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
