MGM, 1999. VHS Movie. Starring Cher, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright, Maggie Smith, Lily Tomlin, Charlie Lucas, Baird Wallace. 1999. 117 minutes. Fine copy with the original slip-case. Based on Zeffirelli's own childhood this film follows the misfortunes of a number of English and American ladies who choose to stay on in their beloved Florence believing a promise from Mussolini that they would be safe. When it becomes apparent that the promise was just as bogus as Mussolini himself, the ladies show their true spirit.
