About This Item
Berkley: Friends of the Bancroft Library, 1978. First printing thus. Dark blue wrappers. Near fine.. Thin octavo. 51pp. "FOREVER DRY"
Though published between 1965-67, the three short stories collected here were all written in 1964. Having not ever written another short story--save for her time ten years previously in the Berkley classroom--Didion was prompted to write these short stories just after the publication of her first novel Run River, published the year before. It was fear the prompted her. In her own words, "I believed that I would be forever dry. I believed that I would 'forget how.' Accordingly, as a king of desperate finger exercise, I tried writing stories."
Number 26 in the series of keepsakes issued by the Friends of the Bancroft Library for its members.
