About This Item

Tours: Maison Mame, 1937. Boards. Good/Fair. D'Andre Helle. D'Andre Helle. 246, [1] pages. 4 3/4 x 7 inches. Tan boards with red and blue floral decorations. Previous owner inscription dated 1939. Table of Contents at bottom notes "45310-1937" given which we're attributing a 1937 printing date. Bright and clean internally, foxing to the endpapers and dust jacket. Large jagged tear to the base of the spine panel. Boards. The author is a bit of a mystery. OCLC/Worldcat notes he has written 4 books, all in this Mame series. I also found a reference to a Jules Verne related article. There was during this period an industrialist by this name living in France, but I've found nothing to tie him to this book. All the novels are rare, with only one copy in OCLC/Worldcat in France, and none of this title for sale online as we catalog this. This work is listed in "Le Rayon SF: catalogue bibliographique de science-fiction, utopies, voyages extraordinaires" as published in 1937 (p 221). Not in the other standard science fiction references. Number 307 in the "Collection Pour Tous". A science (fiction?) adventure with a wonderful cover illustration.

From the front flap loosely translated:

"From aerostat in the morning to 4 h 20 of the STBY Romans (Drome), will elevate to 30,000 meters and the next day the night to land in Mongolia, while we were down the same night, that is enough to make the trip the most dramatic of the world. Pendantvingt four hours of the day and a horrible night, it's a fight or unheard, suffering from hunger, thirst and cold, scientists must, minute after minute, fighting against the violence of the storm and also against their own despair. Sail the subject, treats for the first time in our time, a scientific extraoirdinaire novel.
