Ithaca, NY: Mack, Andrus & Co., Printers, 1848. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First issue, with frontispiece. 8vo, pp. xvi, [17]-399, in original cloth with gilt-decorated spine. Lacks front free endpaper, cloth worn and faded, some foxing. Good. Dr. Elijah White was Presbyterian minister who first arrived in Oregon with his wife in 1836 in association with the Methodist Mission in the Willamette Valley. He made overland journeys in both directions during the next decade, and was appointed Indian Agent in 1841. He became an earnest booster for the Oregon Territory, promoting its settlement through letters published in several national newspapers. Wagner-Camp 144:1; Howes A-131.
