About This Item
Hertfordshire, England: Wordsworth Editions, 1994. Trade Paperback. Good. 5" x 7 1/2. 356 pages. 1995 reprint. Stored improperly and entire book is slightly wavy and cover corner crease causing turned up bottom corner. Otherwide very good unmarked tight book. A classic and sometimes violent and brutal tale of love and betrayal, separation and reconciliation, setin the familiar Bronte landscape of bleak houses in moorland settings. The realistic nautre of the book provoked a strom of protest on its first publication and, to counter this, Anne Bronte wrote in her famous Preface to the second edition when we have do with vice and vicious characers, I maintain it is better to depict them as they really are than as they would wish to appear.
Synopsis
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is the second and final novel by English author Anne Brontë, published in 1848. It is framed as a letter from Gilbert Markham to his friend and brother-in-law about the events leading to his meeting his wife.

Anne Bronte's style is clear and easy to read. Her use of telling the story through letters did not detract from the story. If you like Jane Austen, one of the other Bronte sisters, or Romantic authors, you will most likely enjoy this book.
