About This Item
Alexandria: Time-Life Books, 1984. Hardcover. 4to. Grey blind-embossed paper over boards with oval color plate tipped to front cover. 176pp. Numerous illustrations (many color), color map. Near fine. First edition of this volume in Time-Life's "Civil War" series, with a unique autograph addition: Tipped to an inner flyleaf is a Typed Letter Signed from Robertson (signed simply "Bud"), 1p, 5½" X 8½", Iowa City, IA, 1959 September 9. Addressed to Arnold Gates (1914-93), noted Civil War and Abraham Lincoln scholar. Fine. On letterhead of "Civil War History," the scholarly journal Robertson edited, a harried Robertson tries to straighten out membership details regarding this journal and a New York Civil War Round Table member (of which Gates was an officer), all the time "swamped in work trying to recoup and reorganize some of the chaos that greeted me when I assumed the editorship.
