London: Gay and Bird,, 1904. First edition, first impression, presentation copy inscribed on the half-title "Mabel Deakin, With A. Brazil's love, Xmas 1904". Brazil was one of the first British writers of modern schoolgirls' stories, and this is her first children's novel. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine and front board lettered and decorated in black, red, and white. Colour frontispiece and 5 similar plates. Light wear to extremities, spine sunned but clear, the binding otherwise sound, endpapers a little toned as often, slight spotting to first few leaves, else internally fresh and unmarked; a very good copy.
