[Scrapbook] High school girl's scrapbook from Class of 1922 at Waco High School in Texas. Filled with handwritten notes from friends, photographs, and 255 pieces of ephemera including tickets to Waco HS Football games, program from school plays, letters and a Western Union telegram. 11 silver gelatin photographs of various small size. Original cloth boards. 10.25 x 7 in. "The Girl Graduates Record Book" and embossed detail flower motif on front cover. 176 pages. 27 handwritten inscriptions from friends and teachers to Winola Raborn, a popular and hard-working student. Many note the classes they had together or include inside jokes, such as the first note (signed from the Chemistry Room) and addressed to "Dearest Fellow Sufferer." Other's address nicknames such as "Rusty" or simply "My Dear". "As our school days end so soon??? I want you to remember me as one of your best friends. I value your friendship very much and want you to never forget the wonderful times we had..." "...just think, in six days we will not be sitting where we are now or in any other place near. My, won't we be happy!! I can say anything in this book like I would wish to because you asked me not to , so I am not going to say any more but - I hope you will never forget me...I wish you and (?) all the success and happiness in this wide, wide, world." From teachers: "You have given evidence of real ability as a student and I trust you may go to college and delight others with your good work."
15 pieces of ephemera related to Waco HS football, including a team photo newspaper clipping, 2 tickets for games between Waco High and Marshall High. White ribbon with "Take "Em Tigers" and "Waco HS Tigers" in orange. Newspaper article on the coach: "Waco High Fortunate in having Tyson for Coach," and typed reports on games agains the following schools: Mexia, Oak Cliff, Beaumont, Austin, Marshall, and Marlin. Other ephemera includes: 3 yellow ribbons for "North Jr. Eagles" that say "Can Corps!!" "Pop East!" and "Whiw West!!" 7 report cards from 1921-22 for classes in History, Chemistry, English, Domestic Science, and Civics. A metal nail file, and color Thanksgiving card. Newspaper clippings on classes ("Home Economics Girls Prepare for Christmas"), school plays including "The Daisy Chain" and "Ruth in a Rush," and Graduation notes. Commencement programs for Waco HS Classes of 1921-22 (Mid-Year Commencement), 1921-22 (June Commencement) and 1940. Clippings of her own marriage announcement in 1923, a year after she graduated. Handwritten list of graduation gifts including: silk hose, box of candy, an apron, and handkerchiefs. Photos include school portraits for a young girl, one with "School Days 1939-'40 Hubbard School" printed below image. One snapshot is of a man in a Navy sailor's uniform. Back hinge loose, beginning to separate. Light toning to some pages (around newspaper clippings). Good to very good condition.
