About This Item

London: HMSO, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Good+. Scarce (only 3 copies in WorldCat, none in COPAC, this is the first copy of the complete set listed online in 20 years). The complete theory of anti-aircraft gunnery worked out during World War I (the Great War) by Hill's Brigands, an illustrious team of physicists, mathematicians, and scientists, including Douglas Hartree, Karl Pearson, and Horace Darwin, who developed the new, three-dimensional gunnery to the sophistication level of established artillery (William Thomas, _Rational Action_, 2015). "Artillery schools" stamps to title pages and number stamped on front cover of volume 1 and spine of volume 2. Volume 1: 867 pages, original red cloth binding with gilt titles. Corners bumped, rear lower corner especially. Front hinge carefully reinforced with archival tape. All plates present including 14 large fold-outs. Volume 2: 271 pages. 5 fold-outs. Good+ condition, wear to joints, foxing to endpapers. All fold-outs excellent. 104200
