H. Howland, 1855. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 48mo - over 3" - 4" tall. Exceptionally rare 19th-century American miniature book, by the noted Quaker prison reformer. Attractive miniature book, bound in full red wallet-style leather, all edges gilt, complete with leather tonge but missing the tie, some rubbing, pencil inscription, ink date. Attributed to Elizabeth Fry; preface signed Upton Lane, 4th Month, 1831; this was Elizabeth Fry's home at the time, and the numeration in the calendar follows Quaker practice in numbering months and days.
