Thomae Aquinatis As Usum Discipulorum Ejusdem Angelici Praeceptoris. Bononiae: Ex Typographia Sancti Thomae Aquinatis, [Thomas, Aquinas, Saint, 1225? -1274 ], 1727-1735. 4to. Adapted by Vincent Louis Gotti who was one of the foremost minds of his time acclaimed by several Popes [Popes Clement XI and XII, and Benedict XIII and XIV], and other intellectuals as well. Book 1-16, from St Thomas Aquinas, 1727-1735- Gotti's most importatn work. "It filled eight volumes and was divided into sixteen parts: the first part comprises the prolegomena and loci theologici, and all the rest follow the order of the "Summa" of St. Thomas, except the last part, which deals with the state of the soul after death, the end of the world, general judgment, etc. " [Catholic Encyclopedia"]. Title page to v.1 printed in red and black, with woodcut device. Woodcut head- and tail-pieces, initials. Includes indexes. 16 Vols. ++ Vera Ecclesia Christi Signis Ac Dogmatibus Demonstrata Contra Jacobi Picenini apologiam pro reformatoribus, & religione reformata, atque ejus religionis triumphum. Bononiae: Hieronymum Corciolani & H. H. Colli Ex Typographia S. Thomae Aquinatis, 1750. 4to. Incomplete copy (Vol. 2, Pt. 2 only). Full vellum boards with gilt lettering on spine. Boards moderately warped as usual and spines show some worm damage. St. Anselm's stamp on front pastedown, call number in pencil or pen on ffep and withdrawal note in pen on title pages or following page. Light foxing. Condition of 16 volume set- two large stains top and bottom of title leaf and leaves from attempted ink removal of [probable writing in Thomas Aquinas volumes], "PRIVATAE BIBLIOTHECAS MAGISTRI CARMELITAS LECTORIS IN ROMANO SAVIENTIAE ARCHIGYMNADIO [sp? ], P M BARTHOLOMAGUS DE VALLE" from the back of the title page. Oval ink mark on title pages. Gotti was a Cardinal and Catholic theologian who wrote commentaries on Thomas Aquinas as well as polemics against Lutherans and Calvinism.
