About This Item
Extended Description and Notes
Viking Press, 1956. Hardcover. Very Good. 0x0x0. Collectible first edition, first printing of Newbery Medalist Ann Nolan Clark's Third Monkey, a tale of the odd, small and ugly Third Monkey, who wanted most of all to be different than other monkeys. Clark, both a Newberry Honor finalist and later a medalist, was perhaps most notable for her Bureau of Indian Affairs' series of children's books, among them the Little Herder titles, which advanced the cause of the Tesuque Pueblo and in turn helped their children learn to read. Original art work by celebrated children's books illustrator Don Freeman. Freeman's illustrations appear on both the front and terminal endpapers and every page in the text, each in vivid color. Includes scarce dust jacket in archival Brodart sleeve with $2.50 price on front flap. 44 numbered pages. 10 1/4" x 6 3/4". Tight, unmarked copy with minimal shelf wear, sharp extremities and several very faint, small areas of discoloration to board cloth. Dust jacket with tiny chips to edges and 1" tear to top of spine panel, closed by archival filmoplast. And exceptionally presentable copy of an important mid-century children's book. Photographs of or additional information about this item are available on request. All inquiries answered promptly.
