Published for the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., this is a two-volume boxed set, an extensively illustrated biography of Eakins by an important art historian, a curator and later the Director of the Whitney Museum of Art, who published an earlier biography of Eakins in 1933, based on research that included conversations with Eakins' widow and interviews with his friends and former students, many of whom were the subjects of his portraits, and access to Eakins' letters and notebooks; this new book takes into account the extensive research and literature on Eakins since 1930; includes 275 illustrations in both black & white and color; signed by author on front endpaper of Volume I (white & tan textured cloth with tan lettering, both volumes in near fine condition except that spines are foxed, slipcase in nearly perfect condition). Signed by Author. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 9 1/4" X 11 1/4". Boxed Set.
