Near black cloth with gilt fr. and sp. lettering, marred only by a few faint whitish spots to back, otherwise virtually pristine. f/piece with tissue guard + t.p. with small engraving of a dhow to centre , 281 pp. inc. t.p. + (2, pub. notices), 6 plates ex-pagination as called for; March 1904 hand-written award inscription (6 lines), 3 tanning patches to fr. end-paper and centre rear end-paper fully tanned, faint dust traces to top edge. This was written by subject's widow (his 2nd wife, his first having died in 1873 a few days afyer he new-born son). 13.5 cm x 20 cm
