Black & white illustrations. Rebound in brown leatherette with original covers & spine laid down. Front hinge partially cracked; first map has tape reinforcement on verso along fold lines; contemporary gift inscription; still a very good copy. The author describes his journeys in Burma, Siam, and the Shan States, in search of the best path to connect Burmah with China and Siam by railway, were performed partly by boat, and partly on the back of elephants.
