Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin and Company, 1888. TWO VOLUMES uniformly bound. Previous owner's name top of front free endpapers, both volumes. Frontispiece illustration of the "Blake" in Volume 1. Both volumes replete with text illustrations, full-page maps and diagrams, some in color, several fold-out. Map is present in rear pocket of Volume 2. The author (1835-1910) was the premier American thalassographer (oceanographer) of the 19th century. He was the son of the famed naturalist Louis Agassiz. During the voyage of the "Blake", he collected hundreds of deep sea and coral reef specimens. 314-220pp.. First Edition. Dark Blue Cloth. Moderate Corner and Edge Wear/No Dust Jackets. Royal Octavo.
