A Modern Library reprint edition of Gertrude Stein's work of fiction, consisting of three stories: "The Good Anna," "Melanctha," and "The Gentle Lena." The principal characters in each are not connected to one another, but share a venue based on the city of Baltimore. With an introduction by Carl Van Vechten. --- In Toledano spine 7 / blue balloon cloth / limp boards / gilt cover torchbearer / gilt spine titling with interconnected "ML" device / dark topstain / orange Kent endpapers / volume lacks the dust jacket. Likely published c.1933-39 (though 1933 date appears in book). ML #211.1. --- A Fair-only copy, with a large hole at spine which has resulted in the loss of most of the lettering, also with sunned spine & back cover, chafing to cloth and age-toning to leaves, else an intact, unmarked copy.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xi, (7), 11-279 pages .

Synopsis

Three Lives (1909) was Gertrude Stein's first published work. The book is separated into three stories, "The Good Anna," "Melanctha," and "The Gentle Lena. " The three stories are independent of each other, but all are set in the fictional town of Bridgepoint.
