About This Item
Penguin, 1982, 1987. Soft cover. New. Mass market paperback, new in blue pictorial wraps. The famous story of three men and a dog setting off in an open boat on a hilarious voyage up the Thames. The story is full of mishaps - falling into the river and getting lost in Hampton Court Maze - but also offers comments on the world. This excursion was undertaken at the end of the last century and comments on the times have acquired a deeper fascination.
Synopsis
Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), published in 1889, is a humorous account by Jerome K. Jerome of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford. The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages seem a distraction to the comic novel.
Reviews
On Sep 4 2019, a reader said:
Laugh out loud hysterical! Every other line is hilarious! I made the mistake of reading this in public not realizing how funny it is! My advice is not to do that! You will not be able to stop the guffaws, snickers, chuckles from bursting forth. Mr. Jerome certainly knew how to write a witty and fantastic story. I'm happy that I found this masterpiece.
