The Irish novelist Julia Kavanagh (1824-1877) was born at Thurles in Tipperary, Ireland. She spent several years of her childhood in Paris before she and her invalid mother Bridget moved to London. Her first book "The Three Paths" was targeted to younger readers. Her subsequent work "Madeleine, a Tale of Auvergne" drew more attention. Subsequent works included "Women in France during the Eighteenth Century", "A Summer and Winter in the Two Sicilies", "French Women of Letters" and "English Women of Letters", etc. She and her mother returned to Paris in the 1860's and they subsequently moved to Rouen and then Nice at the outset of the Franco-Prussian War.
