Edinburgh: Scottish Academic Press, 1972. (UK) 1st publication of this edition (1972). There is an ownership stamp overprinted to remove the name to the endpaper, ownership stamp to the front flap, and rear endpaper, otherwsie Very Good in Very Good dust jacket with some rubbing to dust jacket panels. Hardcover, map endpapers, xxxii, 494pp, index, no illus. This novel appeared in 1822 and was dismissed as a trivial production by Edinburgh literary circles. Hogg called this book a "Border Romance". It is is set during the reign of Robert II,King of Scots (1371-1390). Edinburgh was not ready of a story where the ending had a prostitute as the real heroine, redeeming a worthless good-for-nothing.
