London: Grant Richards, 1901. Pale green vertically ribbed cloth, t.e.g., others untrimmed. Cloth a bit sunned and marked, spine slightly cocked, inner hinges cracking (but sound), bookplate. A good copy, in half morocco slipcase and chemise. First edition, in the primary binding. The edition consisted of 2000 copies, spread amongst several binding lots. An interesting copy: affixed to the half-title for "Captain Brassbound's Conversion" is one of Shaw's small lettercards, inscribed: "12th Feb. 1901. The part was written for Ellen Terry. G. Bernard Shaw." On the front endsheet appears a small ink date: "Jan. 16, 1901," and in the early same hand, on the verso of the same leaf as bears Shaw's card, appears the following: "Written by the author in Ellen Terry's copy of Three Plays for Puritans 'To Ellen Terry - my Lady Cicely. Who thought it would be all the same - (but it wasn't) if she played Volumnia instead.'" The bookplate is that of one "Lindsay Jardine." LAURENCE A46a.

Lorraine Hansberry's tour de force was the first Broadway play produced to be written by a Black woman. A Raisin in the Sun explores the dynamics of a Black family in America as they confront prejudice and the profound barriers due to racism in all aspects of their daily lives. Before its debut, Hansberry worked as a Black civil rights activist and journalist for Black papers, and is now known to have been a closeted lesbian, leading to intense isolation even after she was catapulted into fame. The play debuted at The Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 1958 and the book was published the following year, it includes photographs of the original production, and therefore documents a crucial moment in the history of performance arts.
