Setting is about 1779 when a group of English textile workers in Manchester rebelled against the introduction of machinery which threatened their skilled craft. This was the first of many Luddite riots to take place. Henty tells us that we have enemies within as well as without, and therefore the power of self-control is a quality that should be striven after by every 'true' boy."
