About This Item

New York: Random House, 1950. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/good +. Octavo, 238pp. A very good copy in the publisher's brown cloth, nicked at the crown, and rubbed along the far extremities (normal for this title). In a good or better dust jacket, with a stain on the rear panel and mild general creasing, but no large chips. One thin, long crease along the front spine joint. A wonderful copy, SIGNED and lengthily INSCRIBED by McCloy on a front blank: "For Walter Shirley, with kindest regards, Helen McCloy. P. S. Of all my books, this is my own favorite. December 6, 1980." "Through a Glass, Darkly" is the eighth "Basil Willing" novel, and probably the most successful. The story is an eerie and disquieting exploration of the doppelganger. Very uncommon signed, and especially with such a pleasing inscription. Keating ("Whodunit?"), p. 201 (seven stars in all categories).

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
